Mary Rockwell Hook was a pioneer in the history of architecture. At a time when women were believed to be unsuited to practice in the field she began to develop the Siesta Key community that would become Sandy Hook. Mary Hook purchased the 55 acres of the development and her designs were featured in Whispering Sands, a sanctuary for writers and artists, the open air chapel for the St. Boniface Church, and the early residences of Sandy Hook. Today, Sandy Hook is a private enclave of 42 single family homes and a condominium development that share cabanas on a private beach just north of Siesta Key Village.
Siesta Key Village is the heart of Siesta Key. Adorning the road-side foot paths of the village you will find may Key West style watering holes, raw bars, night clubs, and fine restaurants. There are also many business designed to cater to the residents of the island including a small supermarket, jewelry stores, salons, spas, and clothing stores.
The Great International White Sand Beach Challenge held in 1987, Siesta Key Beach was recognized as having the whitest and finest sand in the world. This famous beach is located within minutes of the Sandy Hook neighborhood and it is this beach and the primer location of Sandy Hook that bolsters the home values in this community.
