The Sanderling Club of Siesta Key is the most exclusive neighborhood on Siesta Key. The properties within the development are some of the finest homes that can be found on the Island. Sanderling Club is located just south of Stickney Point Bridge. The majority of the development can be found on the Gulf of Mexico side of Midnight Pass Road. Sanderling Club is the only development on Siesta Key that features 24 hour gated security although this gated security is limited to the beachfront and Heron Lagoon residences.
The homes in Sanderling Club are built on estate sized lots that are handsomely landscaped with rare tropical foliage and exotic trees. There are more than 100 residences in the community that range in price from under $1 million to $10 million. Many of the homes in Sanderling Club are palatial beach side residences located just behind Turtle Beach on the south end of Siesta Key.
Many of the residences that are not located directly on the beach line Heron Lagoon. This land-locked lagoon is home to many species of birds and other wildlife that resides on Siesta Key. Flocks of Heron and Green Parrots frequent the lagoon as do many other costal birds. The remaining residences of the development are either land locked or located on the bay-side in a separate section of the Sanderling development that is not gated.
Residents of the Sanderling Club community are required to be members of the Sanderling Club. There is an initiation fee of $20,000 to join the club as well as annual membership dues of $2,800. The club features 3 tennis courts, a 15 slip marina located bayside, kitchen, beach access, barbeque area and a library.
The historic beach-side cabanas of The Sanderling Club are available to the residents of the community. These historically significant structures were designed by the famous modernist architect, Paul Rudolph. They were primarily constructed in 1951 to be used by Sanderling residents that do not have a beachfront address.
For those who are not familiar with Mr. Rudolph, he was one of the most innovative modernist architects produced by the Sarasota School of Architecture during his tenure there in the 1940’s. After leaving Sarasota, Rudolph became the Dean of Architecture for Yale University. The Sanderling Beach House, also designed by Rudolph, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
